Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam

This is a website for the vegans who want to travel. I think the information below will be helpful if you want to come to Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

If you come to Viet Nam for the first time, you may find the most popular places in Viet Nam to visit. There are two well-known places in Viet Nam are Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. Ha Noi is the capital, it is in the northern of Viet Nam. Ho Chi Minh City is the biggest city which is in the southern. Today, we will discover some interesting things about Ho Chi Minh City.

The name of the city

The name of this area ( include Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces) originally is Prey Nokor. It was the land of the Khmer ( Nowadays, they become one of 53 ethnic minorities in Viet Nam, the Khmer in Viet Nam is called the Khmer Crom).

The Kinh people ( the majority ethnic group of Viet Nam, comprising about 86% of the population) invaded this area and turned it into their land. After many changes, the city was named Sai Gon- Gia Dinh.

From after 1858 until 1975, the city was called Sai Gon.

From July 1976, Sai Gon has changed the name to Ho Chi Minh City which is the name of the first Democratic Republic of Vietnam’s president. However, many people are used to calling the old name of the city, Sai Gon.

Style of Ho Chi Minh City

The city that never sleeps

Ho Chi Minh City is the busiest and the most dynamic city in Viet Nam. The nightlife of this city is interesting. From the morning until afternoon, people come to work or go to school, they rarely go outside for entertaining activity, but they do in the evening and night. When you go to the centers of the city such as district 1, district 3, district 4 at night you will see those places are always crowded with native people and travelers. The city is beautiful at night because the light is on, you can see the sparkling Ho Chi Minh City.  However, I call it ‘ the city that never sleeps’ is just in a relative way. It can’t compare with big cities like New York or Hong Kong, but it is the most dynamic and sleep latest city in Viet Nam.

The dynamism doesn’t appear in the whole city. You can also find some peaceful places inside this city.

Open-minded and friendly people

Ho Chi Minh City or Sai Gon is influenced much by Western culture as this place was the headquarters of the French and the United States government. Many people here are open-minded, they are easy to talk to, and if you are a foreigner, you are likely to talk to them easier. Many ladies in Sai Gon are open-minded, they are not shy like traditional ladies.

The Vietnamese like foreigners so much and they are curious about new things. Therefore, if you are a foreigner and travel to Viet Nam, don’t think it is weird when many people stare at you. They just want to come to talk with you.

Nowadays, because of the integration in many fields, English is becoming a necessary language in Viet Nam. As a result,  many students from universities usually gather in the parks in District 1 to find foreigners to practice English.

District 1- The biggest center of Ho Chi Minh City

As I said above, the dynamism doesn’t appear in the whole city. There are some places that make the dynamism here stand out. District 1 is one of those places.

This is the place of many nightlife entertaining activities. District 1 is also where you can see more foreign travelers than anywhere else in Ho Chi Minh City. This district is shimmering at night because of the light from many shopping malls and high buildings. In District 1, there are many parks which are the ideal places for couples and friends gather at the weekends.
